A major fire broke out at a tire dump located on the grounds of the former Estrella Azul factory in the village of Pueblo Nuevo. The incident generated a thick cloud of black smoke that has affected surrounding areas.
According to reports from the scene, the site is currently used as a clandestine tire dump, a situation that has complicated firefighting efforts due to the large amount of combustible material. Authorities are reiterating their call to the public not to use these spaces as illegal landfills, emphasizing that tires pose a serious risk to health and the environment.
Significant resources have been deployed to control the blaze. Captain Alexander Pérez of the Benemérito Fire Department of Panama explained that around 10 fire units remain on the scene. Firefighters are utilizing rapid intervention vehicles and a fire truck, supported by a tanker truck entering the area to reinforce the water supply.
Due to the high thermal load, the tires are burning completely, releasing thick smoke. Operations are being conducted carefully due to terrain conditions and the intensity of the fire. The situation is ongoing.
