Panama's MOP Suspends Road Works for Carnival

Panama's MOP will suspend road work during the carnival to avoid traffic jams. The transit authority will impose restrictions on trucks and deploy police to ensure safety.

The days of highest mobility during the carnival are generally Friday and Saturday. Specifically, the Ministry of Public Works (MOP) refers to the work carried out on the Pan-American Highway from La Espiga de La Chorrera to the border at Paso Canoas and from the intersection with the Southern Corridor to Las Garzas de Pacora. Strategic points will be set up inside and outside the areas where the various national carnival activities will take place. The ATTT specified that only cargo vehicles not exceeding 2.5 meters in width, 20 meters in length, and 4.15 meters in height will be allowed to circulate. This announcement is in addition to the one from the Transit and Land Transport Authority (ATTT), which prohibited the circulation of oversized cargo vehicles throughout the country from 6:00 p.m. this Thursday, February 12, until 6:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 19. Subsequently, these measures will be implemented at strategic points on the Pan-American Highway such as Howard, El Nazareno in Capira, Sajalices (Chame), and San José, in the San Carlos district. In the metropolitan area, work will be suspended on the Transístmica, Avenida Balboa, Avenida José Agustín Arango, Avenida José María Torrijos, Avenida Ricardo J. Alfaro (Tumba Muerto), and Avenida Israel. Approximately 18,784 units will be part of the National Police's security operation to guarantee safety during the 2026 Carnivals. The National Directorate of Traffic Operations (DNOT) will begin reversing lanes from Avenida de los Mártires towards Howard starting at noon on Friday, February 13.
