Two Killed in Traffic Accidents in West Panama

Two fatal accidents occurred in West Panama province on Wednesday night. A motorcyclist died in a collision on a bridge in La Chorrera, and another person was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Later, a pedestrian was killed on the Inter-American highway.


Two people were killed in two traffic accidents that occurred on Wednesday night in the districts of La Chorrera and Capira in the province of West Panama. The first accident was recorded at the Perequeté bridge in La Chorrera, where a sedan and a motorcycle carrying two people collided. Additionally, authorities reported that 51 vehicles were removed with tow trucks during the operations. As a result of this accident, the motorcycle driver, a man of about 50 years old, died; while his companion, a woman of about 41 years old, was taken to the Regional Nicolás Solano Hospital in serious condition. Hours later, on the Inter-American highway at the height of Villa Carmen, Capira district, a man trying to cross the road was run over by the driver of a vehicle traveling towards the capital city. On the other hand, 1,175 traffic fines were issued; 120 of them for speeding, 2 for proven drunkenness, 72 for inadequate lights, and 27 for expired licenses. Paramedics from the Unique System for Emergency Management (SUME) went to the scene of the accident and declared the pedestrian dead.
