PROMEGA Institute Celebrates 23rd Anniversary

The Livestock Improvement Institute (PROMEGA) of the University of Panama celebrated its 23rd anniversary by inaugurating a modern conference hall that honors the legacy of one of its foundational pillars, Mgt. Rubén Guardia Chang (q.e.p.d.). After the religious ceremony, the celebration moved to the administrative offices of PROMEGA, where the ribbon-cutting and the unveiling of the plaque for the new hall in honor of Guardia Chang took place. This tribute seeks to honor the memory of a visionary who was a driving force of the project from its beginnings. Miguel I. Espinosa G., director of the institute, along with Mrs. Judith Chang, the honoree's mother, and Mrs. Cielo de Guardia (widow). During his speech, Professor Miguel Espinosa recalled the evolution of the unit, highlighting that in 2003 the University of Panama elevated it from a project to an institute. "My father not only dedicated his life to research and science, but he firmly believed that study is the seed of progress," expressed Guardia Chang's daughter. "Today, his legacy lives on in every program, in every training session, and in every young professional formed under his principles." "This celebration is not just a date on the calendar; it is recognition for more than two decades of constant work, social commitment, and a vocation to serve the small and medium-sized Panamanian producer," stated Espinosa. He also dedicated words full of sentiment to the figure of Rubén Guardia Chang: "He was a visionary promoter and a fundamental pillar." The official act was led by the engineer.
