Operation Guardians 2026 More than 300 people, including officials, volunteers, and personnel from the National Civil Protection System (Sinaproc), will be deployed at 51 coverage points nationwide. These points will be operational from this Thursday, April 2, to Sunday, April 5, 2026, to address the increase in travel to different regions of the country during this holiday.
The operation was announced by Sinaproc at a press conference held last Tuesday, March 31. According to the entity, the coverage will include beaches, rivers, resorts, trails, and religious activities during the aforementioned days.
The coverage will extend to the provinces of Bocas del Toro, Chiriquí, Veraguas, Herrera, Los Santos, Coclé, Colón, Panamá, and Panamá Oeste, as well as the Ngäbe-Buglé and Guna Yala comarcas, and the province of Darién.
National Coverage Points Beaches: Playa Las Lajas, Playa Barqueta, Playa Estero Rico, Playa Punta Robalo, La Playita de Carenero, Playa El Palmar, Playa Arrimadero, Playa El Uverito, Playa Santa Clara, and Playa Juan Hombrón.
Other aquatic areas and resorts: La Ermita, La Ensenada, La Laguna, Boquilla, Canadian, La Angosta, Sherman, the Changuinola River (El Silencio), and the Mamón River (bridge and water intake).
Trails under coverage: La India Dormida, Cerro La Cruz, Cerro Gaital, Los Quetzales, and the Volcán Barú, among others.
Similarly, the entity warned that it remains on alert due to the possible occurrence of the phenomenon known as "background sea," forecast for Friday, April 3, to Sunday, April 5. This could affect the Panamanian Pacific coast. This phenomenon is characterized by long, continuous swells, posing a risk for swimmers, artisanal fishermen, and small boats, especially during high tide.
2025 Figures According to the Emergency Operations Center (COE), during Holy Week last year, 32 deaths were recorded, both within and outside security operations. Thousands of people are expected to travel to different parts of the country in the coming hours for Holy Week. Of these, 30 were from traffic accidents and two from drowning. Additionally, eight people were rescued at sea.
