The Meritorious Fire Corps of the Republic of Panama reports a total of 2,663 emergencies related to traffic accidents, including collisions with fixed objects, motorcycles, rollovers, collisions, incidents involving animals, and other cases, handled by operational teams from January to the present date. The responses were carried out by firefighters from the Department of Fire Suppression, Search, and Rescue (DOEXBURE), along with paramedics from the Pre-hospital Medical Care Service (SAMER) in their ambulances, who provided a rapid and professional response to each incident. This report was issued by the Radio Operations and Control Center, under the command of Captain Andrés Espinoza, who highlighted that traffic incidents continue to be one of the main reasons for activating operational personnel nationwide. The main types of incidents recorded on Panama's roads include:
• Traffic accidents (two or more vehicles): 1,332 cases • Collision with a fixed object: 440 cases • Rollovers: 434 cases • Hit-and-runs: 203 cases • Vehicle vs. motorcycle: 184 cases • Motorcycle falls: 63 cases • Collision with an animal: 7 cases
Due to the constant occurrence of such incidents, Captain Espinoza reminded drivers of the importance of taking preventive measures, such as respecting speed limits and traffic signals, avoiding distractions while driving, especially the use of cell phones, and performing preventive vehicle maintenance, checking brakes, tires, and lights.
