Panama, November 24, 2025. To facilitate the use of drones for medication transport in hard-to-reach areas of the Republic of Panama, an inter-institutional agreement was signed between the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Public Security. Fernando Boyd Galindo, Minister of Health, stated that two months ago, this program was launched in collaboration with the PAHO/WHO, with the support of the FC Barcelona Foundation. The program aims to overcome geographical barriers for the transport of medicines and medical supplies, reducing travel time from hours to just minutes and improving access to primary healthcare in remote zones. 'The Ministry of Health will ensure that this initiative aligns with the principles and strategic lines of the National Digital Transformation Strategy in Health, guaranteeing its integration into the national health information systems,' said Boyd Galindo. Frank Alexis Ábrego, Minister of Public Security, noted that this collaboration between the two ministries will benefit the inhabitants of remote areas in the indigenous regions. 'We join this project with great enthusiasm, because delivering medicines to these populations via drones is a community and preventive action,' said Ábrego. The drones will be operated by personnel from the National Aeronaval Service (SENAN). In turn, Ana Rivière Cinnamond, PAHO/WHO Representative in Panama, stated that 'this initiative seeks to overcome geographical barriers for the transport of medicines and medical supplies, reducing travel time from hours to just minutes and improving access to primary healthcare in remote areas'.
