The regional office of the Ministry of Agricultural Development (MIDA) in the province of Colón, in coordination with the Guna Yala region, has intensified epidemiological surveillance by implementing an active surveillance system for birds and pigs to prevent diseases in farm animals.
During the operation, monitoring of diseases of zoosanitary importance such as Newcastle disease, salmonellosis, classical swine fever (CSF), and brucellosis was carried out to strengthen prevention and control measures in the Guna Yala comarca.
The communities visited in Corregimiento No. 1 were: Tikantiki, Río Tigre, Río Sidra, Soledad Miria, Naranjo Chico, Cartí Sugdup, and Isla Nurdup.
