In less than seven days, the province of Veraguas has registered two cases of aggression against the elderly, facts that keep local authorities concerned. The most recent occurred in the remote community of Quebro, in the Mariato district, where a 40-year-old citizen was arrested for allegedly mistreating an elderly person. The suspect was placed at the disposal of the Quebro public prosecutor's office, while authorities investigate the motives behind the attack. The Ministry of Social Development, through its legal advisory department, reports that national statistics on mistreatment of the elderly are alarming. "We are working to protect our elderly and ensure that justice is served," explained local authorities.
