Panama Announces New Oncology Institute Building

A Panamanian citizen requires cancer treatment. President José Raúl Mulino announced a new building for the National Oncology Institute (ION) in the City of Health. According to the president, the new structure will feature 9 levels of care, a chemotherapy room with 90 chairs, 8 beds for extended treatments, and a clinical and molecular laboratory for hematology in the City of Health, where there is a hotel for patients and their families. “There is no oncology patient from Seguro (social security) or an oncology patient from Minsa (Ministry of Health). That is why we are expanding care for everyone with more space and comfort, because the patient will always come first,” stated Mulino. According to the Ministry of Health (Minsa), completion is expected within an estimated period of 18 to 24 months. The project exceeds 95 million balboas. In turn, the president stated that this is a joint effort with Minsa and the Social Security Fund (CSS), which adds to the already inaugurated Oncology Hospital and the units built in the interior of the country.
