10 Minors Detected on Coffee Farms in Panama

In Panama, inspectors from the Ministry of Labor and Labor Development (Mitradel) detected 10 minors performing coffee harvesting tasks on farms located in Boquete, Chiriquí province. The group includes 7 boys and 3 girls, aged between 7 and 17. The minors were removed from the area and transferred to protective camps by the technical team of the Directorate Against Child Labor and Protection of the Working Adolescent (Diretipat) and the Inspection Directorate. Mitradel highlighted that coffee harvesting activities are among the worst forms of child labor under International Labor Organization (ILO) Convention 182, due to the risks they pose to the health, safety, and development of minors.
