Among the products withdrawn are food, medicine, and other perishable items that, despite having expired expiration dates, were still being offered to the public. In case of any irregularity, citizens can file complaints through Sindi, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, via WhatsApp or Telegram at 6330-3333, or on its social networks.
The Authority for Consumer Protection and Competition Defense (Acodeco) has carried out a major seizure of 174,559 expired products that were for sale in various stores across the country. Additionally, it warns about other irregularities such as lack of expiration date, adulterated or erased labels, and products without visible prices. To protect themselves, Acodeco urges consumers to remain vigilant. The entity is applying severe fines to businesses that commit these offenses.
The irregularities were detected in various provinces: Veraguas: 32,372 products; Panama: 23,524 products; Panama Este: 18,992 products; Bocas del Toro: 18,952 products; Los Santos: 15,321 products; Chiriquí: 14,068 products; Coclé: 13,824 products; Herrera: 9,451 products; Panama Oeste: 8,097 products; Panama Norte: 6,394 products; Colón: 4,352 products; Darién: 3,101 products. Acodeco has expressed its concern over the continued sale of expired products, which puts consumers' health at risk.
