Health authorities have reported a significant increase in respiratory disease cases in the province of Veraguas, where more than 5,400 people have already been affected, according to data from the Ministry of Health (MINSA).
According to records, between 150 and 250 patients with respiratory symptoms are treated weekly in various medical centers in the region.
Dr. Ricardo Chong, an epidemiologist from MINSA, explained that the most frequent symptoms include cough, nasal congestion, fever, and difficulty breathing, so he reiterated the importance of reinforcing prevention measures to avoid a greater spread of these ailments.
Among the main recommendations, the specialist urged the population to use masks, maintain frequent hand washing, and keep a distance between people, especially when coughing or sneezing.
Additionally, he reminded that it is essential to cover the mouth and nose when sneezing to reduce the risk of contagion.
Chong assured that the emergency rooms, hospitals, polyclinics, and health centers in the province are prepared and have the capacity to care for patients with respiratory conditions, ensuring timely attention.
The Ministry of Health also reported an increase in cases of other transmissible diseases, such as malaria and dengue, and urged citizens to adopt strict prevention measures, including eliminating mosquito breeding sites and promptly seeking medical attention for any symptoms.
Health authorities reiterated the call to the population not to let their guard down, follow official recommendations, and go to the nearest health centers if they present symptoms, in order to protect individual and collective health in the province of Veraguas.
