The Benemérito Cuerpo de Bomberos de la República de Panamá (BCBRP) has issued a preventive alert to the public to reinforce home security during Christmas Eve and Christmas celebrations. Firefighters remind that in the case of pets, the call is not to leave them completely alone. The BCBRP reiterated that prevention is everyone's responsibility and continues to be the best way to avoid tragedies. If you are traveling within the country, the BCBRP advises unplugging unnecessary electrical appliances, avoiding overloading outlets, and ensuring doors and windows are secured. One of the main calls is not to leave the kitchen unattended. In any emergency, the institution reminds to immediately dial 103. Regarding Christmas decorations, the recommendation is clear: do not leave the tree lights on for long periods. If they are used on Christmas Eve, they must be turned off after the celebration ends or when leaving the home. Before hitting the road, firefighters insist on checking the vehicle to reduce risks during the trip. It is also recommended to check gas connections and make sure the valves are tightly closed, especially before leaving home. The warning aims to prevent fires and domestic accidents that usually increase during these dates, when the use of stoves, Christmas lights, gas, and electricity intensifies. Subtenant Aldo Alberola, deputy director of the national directorate of fire safety, prevention, and investigation, recalled that prevention is key to protecting the life and tranquility of Panamanian families. Stoves, ovens, and pots left unattended can become an emergency in a matter of minutes.
