From today at noon until December 26 at 7:00 a.m., the Social Security Fund (CSS) has activated its green alert for Christmas. This is a preventive operation aimed at responding without pause to the increase in medical emergencies typical of this season. As part of the plan, medical-surgical supplies and patient transport have been reinforced, ensuring that health centers have what is necessary to handle any situation that may arise during the holidays. The CSS authorities warn that during Christmas, the most frequent care is related to bumps, traumas, wounds, food poisoning, and excessive alcohol consumption. Additionally, 33 executive units will be operational, including 15 hospitals and 18 polyclinics, all with emergency rooms functioning 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The CSS reminded that uninsured people can also go to their facilities in an emergency, as immediate care is guaranteed for the entire population when a life is at risk. The authorities also issued a clear warning about pyrotechnics: not allowing children to handle it, due to the high risk of burns, amputations, and serious injuries that these devices cause every year. Finally, a call was made to exercise extreme caution with food. Improperly prepared or preserved food can cause serious infections, especially in people with chronic diseases such as kidney, cardiovascular, or hypertension problems, so it is recommended not to ignore symptoms and to go to a medical center in a timely manner. For this reason, an increase in demand for medical services of between 10% and 20% is expected. To face this scenario, the institution has deployed around 6 thousand officials nationwide.
