Panama's Minsa Urges Reinforced Measures Due to Rising Influenza and RSV Cases

The Ministry of Health (Minsa) reported 59 cases of Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) this week, bringing the cumulative total to 1,220 cases (937 untyped RSV, 166 RSV A, and 117 RSV B). The report also reveals the circulation of other viruses, including parainfluenza, SARS-CoV-2, and rhinovirus. Therefore, Minsa urges the population to reinforce biosafety measures, including mask-wearing in case of respiratory symptoms and timely medical care. Influenza and RSV are the most frequent respiratory viruses in the country. The positivity rate for influenza for Epidemiological Week (SE) 51 of 2025 was calculated at 19.6%, above the alert threshold and showing an increasing trend compared to previous weeks. During this period, 9 deaths from influenza were reported, and one death from SE 48 was updated, reaching a cumulative total of 109 deaths so far this year. Regarding the RSV, the positivity rate is 19%, above the seasonal threshold but with a decreasing trend.
