Panama intensifies efforts to combat child labor. In a joint action, the Ministry of Labor and Labor Development (Mitradel) and the Committee for the Eradication of Child Labor and Protection of the Adolescent Worker (Cetippat) conducted raids in the San Miguelito district. The operation also involved the National Secretariat for Childhood, Adolescence, and Family (Senniaf) and the Police for Childhood and Adolescence. The main objective of these activities was to raise awareness among employers and prevent the hiring of minors in hazardous conditions. During the operations, no minors engaged in labor activities were detected. However, the technical team of Mitradel took the opportunity to remind about the parameters of Panamanian legislation. It was reiterated that the minimum permitted working age is 14, provided that the activity does not interfere with the right to education and is carried out in safe conditions appropriate for their age. Additionally, it was emphasized that any adolescent engaged in a work activity must have a mandatory work permit.
