Water Supply Works Completed in Panama

In Panama, work on the eastern hydraulic ring has been completed, restoring water supply to over 90% of the population in San Miguelito and East Panama. The project includes infrastructure upgrades and water quality improvements.

An air release valve was also installed and the water supply to East Panama was reinforced. Upon completion, it will allow for the transport and distribution of drinking water to areas that lack supplementary sources, including the Cabra plant. Since Sunday afternoon, over 90% of homes in San Miguelito and East Panama already had access to drinking water, according to Rutilio Villarreal, director of the National Aqueducts and Sewers Institute (Idaan). He explained that during the suspension, maintenance work was carried out at the Chilibre water treatment plant as part of the plan to interconnect the eastern hydraulic ring. Among the key tasks were the repair and reinforcement of screens, the replacement of three critical valves, and adjustments to the pumping line. According to Idaan, hydrants were opened to expel air from the 'hydromod' pipes and clean them of possible sedimentation. Idaan reported that information about the operation of the Chilibre plant, pumping stations, and service status is received from the Control Center thanks to a modern telemetry system. The Council for Sustainable Development explained that these works are part of the plan to interconnect the eastern hydraulic ring.
