Panama's Health Ministry: Canine Distemper is Not Dangerous to Humans

The Ministry of Health (Minsa) clarified this Monday that canine distemper, known as moquillo, is not a zoonotic disease, meaning it is not transmitted from animals to humans. According to Minsa, the disease does not pose a risk to people's health, this after the concern of some citizens about the cases that have been reported in the country. Therefore, it urged pet owners to keep their pets' vaccination schedule up to date, especially dogs and cats, as a preventive measure to avoid these and other diseases.
