The Ministry of Health (Minsa), through the West Panama Health Region, conducted a sanitary inspection at the Mistic City residential project after responding to a citizen's complaint regarding a wastewater overflow on Ninth Street, at the end of the road. During the inspection, which was previously notified to the promoting company—who did not show up at the site—the technical team was able to verify that the project's treatment plants show clear signs of abandonment and lack of maintenance. However, this action has caused a wastewater discharge that flows by runoff into the riverbed. Residents of the area expressed their concern about the bad odors perceived in the area. They also stated that personnel from the National Aqueducts and Sewers Institute (IDAAN) have carried out cleaning work on the sewer lines that were clogged. During the proceeding, the Environmental Health team raised the corresponding inspection and citation report, initiating the administrative process before the Ministry of Health in the West Panama Health Region, in accordance with current sanitary regulations. As part of this process, the corresponding sanctions will be applied, including a monetary sanction, in accordance with current sanitary regulations, due to the irregularities detected during the inspection. The Ministry of Health reiterated its commitment to addressing citizen complaints and safeguarding public health, following up on this case until the necessary corrective measures are adopted. Likewise, it was verified that the overflow and wastewater discharge situation continues. According to what was observed, the manhole located at the end of Ninth Street was opened as a provisional measure to prevent wastewater from returning to the sanitary facilities of nearby homes.
