Employees of the Ministry of Education (Meduca) were accused of taking payments from students for confirming the completion of mandatory hours of community service. According to information received at the Regional Office, for every 80 hours of voluntary activities, a sum of 65 balboas was required. This incident was recorded at an educational institution in Las-Mainitas.
The proposed actions of Meduca employees raised suspicion and brought into question the legality of such practices. Regional authorities have begun an investigation to clarify the circumstances of the incident and establish whether the actions of the employees were legal.
In connection with the possible violation of the law and internal rules of the Ministry of Education, the director of the educational institution where these actions were registered will also be questioned. It is proposed that the accusations from the students could lead to disciplinary measures.
So far, the government has not announced official actions regarding the accused employees. The question of what measures will be taken concerning the Meduca employees remains open and depends on the outcome of the investigation.
