This afternoon, a large march of union groups took place towards the National Assembly in protest against the proposed reforms to the Social Security Fund. It was previously reported that the deputies left the National Assembly and urged officials to go home due to the march called by the union groups.
During the mobilization, the protesters expressed their discontent with the reforms that would negatively impact the benefits of the Social Security Fund, considering that they would affect the labor rights of Panamanian workers.
Some participants in the march stated that this demonstration was just the beginning of a series of actions they would undertake to show their opposition to the proposed measures. Protests are expected to continue in the coming days and the dialogue between union representatives and authorities is expected to intensify to seek solutions that satisfy both parties.
