The extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of the Russian Federation in Panama, Konstantin Gavrilov, has been the head of the Russian delegation at the conventional arms control mechanism in Vienna, Austria. He expects to present his credentials to the president of Panama, José Raúl Mulino, soon, with the aim of strengthening friendly ties between Russia and Panama based on mutual respect and reciprocal benefit.
Gavrilov indicated the intention to promote and intensify bilateral trade, which currently reaches 60 million dollars annually, highlighting the legal framework of more than 30 treaties and agreements supporting cooperation in various fields with Panama. The ambassador expressed admiration for the Panamanian people and announced that commemorative events of the Soviet Union's victory over fascism in Europe will take place in May.
In the educational field, scholarship programs have been reaffirmed to train young Panamanian professionals in Russian universities, as well as cooperation in medicine and space sciences. Gavrilov emphasized the importance of promoting Russian culture in Panama and highlighting global changes, including the success of the BRICS as an alternative to the G7.
The ambassador, an expert in international law with experience at the OPCW, highlighted Russia's commitment to those nations fighting for their sovereignty, resisting unjust and neocolonial impositions by Western elites. He stressed the importance of reciprocity from Panamanian partners in this regard.
