Javier López Quirós Resigns as PP Vice Presidential Candidate

Dr. Javier Ernesto López Quirós has formally presented his irrevocable resignation from his candidacy for Vice President of the People's Party (PP), ahead of the Ordinary National Congress to be held this Saturday, December 13, 2025. At this congress, the party's new national leadership will be elected.

His resignation was communicated through a letter addressed to the National Electoral-Ethical Tribunal of the People's Party, submitted with document number 065/TNÉ-E-2025 dated December 9, 2025. The document has already been received and accepted by the National Electoral Organization Directorate of the Electoral Tribunal, which published it this Wednesday in Electoral Bulletin number 5952.

To date, neither López Quirós nor the People's Party have offered public statements on the reasons that led the candidate to drop out of the race just days before the internal vote.

With this withdrawal, the race for the PP's vice presidency is now open among the other candidates who maintain their nomination for the upcoming congress this Saturday, an event where party delegates will elect the new president, vice president, and the rest of the national leadership for the next term.
