Panama: Authorities Seize Over 10 Tons of Drugs

In joint operations by Panamanian police and prosecutors, over 11 tons of drugs were seized in January. Authorities highlight successful citizen collaboration, leading to major arrests and property confiscations.

Two operations carried out by the National Police (PN) and the Public Ministry (MP) in the districts of La Chorrera and Arraiján led to the seizure of over 600 envelopes containing suspected illicit substances, money, and technological equipment.

In a second operation in the Puerto Caimito district of La Chorrera, nine plastic bags with suspected illicit substances were found inside a residence in the Mar Azul neighborhood.

A drug stash was discovered in a hidden location in the wooded area of Altos de la Roca, Veracruz district, West Panama province. Inside, 114 small plastic packets and three plastic bags containing suspected drugs were found. The discovery of this drug hideout, where a digital scale was also found, was made possible thanks to citizen collaboration.

All seized drugs and the detained person were handed over to the Public Ministry (MP).

The seizures were recorded at key points in the country, such as Playa Bongo on Isla del Rey, Santa Isabel, Turtle Cay, and Miramar in the Costa Arriba de Colón area, as well as other zones in the Pacific and Central Caribbean.

In January alone, the seizures amounted to 10,275 metric tons, which, with the support of the National Police and Senafront, totaled 11,387 tons, in addition to securing 5 vessels, 1 vehicle, and arresting 6 people allegedly linked to the trafficking of illicit substances.

A 47-year-old man found inside a residence was apprehended, and cash and technological equipment were also seized.
