During a patrol conducted jointly with park rangers and agents of the Environmental Police, illegal mining activity was detected within Chagres National Park. The operation took place in the community of Santa Librada, Salamanca district, in the Colón Transisthmian area, specifically in the Río Mauro sector, where the inspection was carried out. During the patrol, two individuals were caught in the act performing mining work inside the protected area. Following established procedures, the individuals were apprehended and handed over to the authorities responsible for such cases. Likewise, all items, tools, and equipment used for the mining activity were seized and placed under custody as evidence in the case. The relevant authorities filed the corresponding report, acting under the pertinent legal and administrative measures in accordance with current environmental regulations.
