Panama Investigates Dissemination of Videos with Minors During Carnival

Panama has confirmed investigations into individuals linked to the dissemination of videos featuring minors during Carnival. The country's Attorney General's Office has taken control of the situation due to the severity of the material circulating in digital media. In 2025, a total of 5,815 complaints were registered nationwide. The lack of control over the 'King Momo' festivities has turned celebration into court cases. 'Following complaints and due to videos of a sexual nature circulating on social networks, the relevant investigations have been initiated,' stated the Public Ministry in an official statement. Investigations are being conducted both in the capital and in the interior. Although this represents a slight decrease of 5% compared to the previous period, the nature of the events recorded during the last Carnival casts doubt on whether prevention is reaching all sectors. Despite surveillance, statistics on crimes against sexual freedom continue to be a challenge for national security. Those responsible for these acts, both participants and those who recorded and disseminated the material, could face prison sentences ranging from six to ten years. The objective is to identify the aggressors and protect the integrity of the victims, especially the most vulnerable.
