Minister of Labor meets with port workers and guarantees job stability in Balboa and Cristóbal

The Minister of Labor and Labor Development, Jackeline Muñoz de Cedeño, met with workers at the Port of Balboa and reiterated in person that their jobs are secure amid the transition process underway in the port system. During the meeting, the head of the ministry was emphatic that both Panama Ports Company workers and employees of its subsidiaries maintain the certainty of their continued employment. She also reiterated that the Government maintains permanent communication with workers and their organizations, ensuring that the transition will be carried out with order, responsibility, and full respect for labor rights. The Ministry of Labor and Labor Development will continue to accompany workers at both terminals at all times, providing guidance and clearing up any doubts that may arise during this process. In parallel, the General Director of Labor of Mitradel, Karla León, held a meeting with workers at the Port of Cristóbal in the province of Colón, conveying the same message of reassurance and support from the National Government. The minister explained that a gradual transition process is currently underway under the figure of employer substitution, which will allow for the continuity of operations without affecting job positions. “The stability of each port worker is guaranteed,” she emphasized. She added that the change in the internet system is part of the technical adjustments inherent to this stage, which has generated a temporary pause while the new platform is installed and the corresponding training is carried out. She highlighted the commitment and responsibility of the workers, who remain at their posts, ready to fully resume operations once the new system is activated.
