A taxi driver was killed and another person was injured during an armed attack that occurred this Tuesday in the La Siesta area of Tocumen, in another violent incident that alarms residents of the area. According to preliminary information, the taxi driver was intercepted by armed individuals traveling on a motorcycle, who opened fire on the vehicle as it was traveling along the main road. Following the attack, one of the victims exited the car and attempted to cross the four lanes of the road to ask for help, at which point they were assisted by 911 emergency services. Paramedics managed to stabilize the injured person at the scene and subsequently rushed them to the JJ Vallarino policlinic of the Social Security Fund, where they are receiving medical care. The taxi driver, however, died at the scene from multiple bullet impacts. National Police units cordoned off the scene while agents from the Judicial Investigation Directorate (DIJ) and officials from the Public Ministry began collecting evidence to clarify the crime and apprehend those responsible. The incident occurred in broad daylight and in front of several people, including students at a nearby bus stop. Residents of the area expressed their concern over the growing wave of violence and requested a greater police presence and the installation of surveillance cameras to help prevent this type of attack. Authorities do not rule out that the case may be related to a possible settling of accounts, although investigations remain ongoing.
