Macron Supports Panama in Tax List Fight

During a meeting with Panama's president, Emmanuel Macron promised support to remove Panama from discriminatory tax lists. Both leaders discussed collaboration on biodiversity and mutual interests.

The Panamanian president, José Raúl Mulino, met with his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, achieving positive results for Panama in its fight against discrimination on tax lists. Macron acknowledged Panama's efforts to comply with international standards on tax issues and pledged to collaborate to have the country removed from the European Union lists.

"France wishes to have Panama removed from this tax list," Macron stated during the meeting. Mulino thanked Macron for his support and invited him to visit Panama to strengthen the bonds of friendship between the two nations, an invitation that Macron accepted for the second half of 2025.

The presidents also committed to biodiversity, with Macron proposing Mulino as a speaker at a conference on Oceans in Nice in 2025. Macron thanked Panama for its stance in the Ukraine conflict and for collaborating in the fight against drug trafficking. Both leaders agreed to reject the regime of Nicolás Maduro in Venezuela and denounced the lack of transparency in the recent elections.

Present at the meeting were Panamanian authorities such as the director of Revenues, the superintendent of Banks, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the designated ambassador to France, and the president of the International Financial Equality Action Group. The French delegation included the ambassador of France to Panama, advisors, and directors from various departments of the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs.

This meeting has marked a positive step in the relations between Panama and France, promoting collaboration and constructive dialogue on issues of mutual interest.
