National Assembly returns budget again

The Budget Commission of Panama recommends modifications to the general budget following a massive presence of representatives and mayors, warning of possible rejections if action is not taken soon.

The Budget Commission, headed by President Dana Castañeda, issued a resolution recommending modifications to the draft General State Budget. This draft was returned to the Executive for the second time, an unusual occurrence in the chamber, as explained by PRD Caucus deputy Raúl Pineda to the media present around 7:20 PM. The session in the Budget Commission was intense, beginning the First Debate with Meduca and having passed only one hour more.

One of the factors that influenced this decision was the massive presence of Representatives and Mayors, who claimed the right that by law corresponds to the Fund designated for the Community Boards of PIOPS and IBI, having suffered a cut of 43 million dollars. Given this situation, they warned that if the Budget does not return to the National Assembly on the 27th of this month, it could be rejected.

In the words of deputy Raúl Pineda: 'If the Budget does not return to the National Assembly on the 27th, it could be rejected.'

This second return of the draft General State Budget for 2025 is an unprecedented event in the country's history, generating an atmosphere of uncertainty and debate in the National Assembly.
