The Ombudsman of Panama, Eduardo Leblanc González, and his counterpart from Colombia, Isis Marín Ortiz, recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen cooperation, protection, and defense of the human rights of individuals involved in mixed migration movements and of the receiving, transit, and host communities.
In this regard, Leblanc González emphasized the importance of this collaboration between the two institutions to ensure respect for and protection of the human rights of migrants, especially in a context of complex mobility and constant challenges.
For her part, Isis Marín Ortiz expressed her commitment to strengthening this alliance that seeks to promote the guarantee of the fundamental rights of migrants in the region, as well as to improve the conditions of reception and protection in transit and destination countries.
Both defenders highlighted the importance of working together to address the challenges and obstacles faced by people on the move, recognizing the vulnerability of this group and the necessity of providing them with support and comprehensive assistance.
