Frustration over Traffic Chaos in West Panama

The opening of new road accesses has intensified traffic chaos in West Panama, generating complaints from drivers about the lack of planning and effective solutions.

The inauguration of the new eight-lane road access to Panama Oeste, which aimed to alleviate traffic and improve connectivity, has been a cause of complaints and frustration for thousands of drivers who, instead of experiencing relief on their journeys, have had to face massive traffic jams and long hours on the roads. The situation has generated criticism on social media, where users report the lack of proper planning and apparent 'incompetence' from the responsible authorities.

"The problem lies in the fact that the bridge has only one lane to get into the city. You go from four lanes to two, and on the bridge there is only one," expressed the user edgardoaizpu. Another highlighted comment was from @jesusc.guerra, who expressed his concern about the lack of a long-term solution: "The tunnel that will collapse is missing, killing thousands, for not wanting to build a two-level bridge with 16 lanes, eight for entering and eight for exiting."

Many internet users also pointed out that traffic jams not only affect their travel times but also imply an increase in fuel expenses and psychological strain. The user erick_ggbusiness noted: "Gas prices are through the roof, and the lack of sleep from having to wake up early to spend hours in traffic destroys us. Joaquinflores2304 sums up the general feeling: 'It was to be expected that the 8 lanes would converge into 2. You don't have to be wise to know that this equation equals a huge jam.'

Users like nona_mm20 demand decentralization and more equitable development of the provinces, arguing that the unchecked growth of the outskirts of the city has only increased traffic chaos. "When will decentralization happen? Other provinces need to develop more. No more permits for neighborhoods in Panama Oeste; water barely reaches everyone already," some citizens expressed, highlighting the need to find effective solutions to resolve traffic problems and improve the quality of life for Panamanians.
