Former Mayor Vallarino Avoids Jail with Fine

The former mayor Bosco Valyarin managed to change the order for the payment of the fine. He will have to pay the national treasury a fine in the amount of 12 thousand balboas within the next eight months to avoid imprisonment. The court issued this decision after considering the case on financial violations, in which he was involved.

This sum is considered a compromise, otherwise Valyarin could have been sentenced to three years in prison for offenses committed during his tenure as head of the Panama City District. The charges relate to abuse of power, corruption, and embezzlement of funds committed between 2010 and 2012.

"I intend to pay this fine within the established deadlines and thereby avoid imprisonment," Valyarin stated after the issuance of the ruling. "I admit my guilt in the committed actions and am ready to accept responsibility for my actions."
