WBSC Reacts to Baseball America Cup Cancellation, Blames COPABE

The world governing body of baseball, the WBSC, has reacted to the controversy surrounding the cancellation of the Baseball America Cup. According to the WBSC, the entity responsible for this regrettable incident — which has tarnished Panama's name internationally — is COPABE, or WBSC Americas Baseball. It turns out that Ms. Aracelys León, irresponsibly working alone from the outset, was in charge of organizing this international event. In an attempt to absolve herself of responsibility, Ms. Aracelys León stepped forward as a spokesperson at a press conference, warning that WSBC Americas Baseball would open an investigation into what happened and file a complaint against the mysterious promoter company. The truth is that the president of the Panamerican organization never came forward to inform in a timely manner about the tournament's situation, and ultimately ended up tarnishing the country's name. Now, she shamelessly announces that the international event will take place next year, which is clearly an act of irresponsibility. Gentlemen of the WBSC, as the world governing body of baseball, following this shameful incident, the immediate course of action is to take legal measures to prevent such a thing from happening again. If firm measures are adopted, it will send a clear message of transparency; if not, suspicion will arise that everyone was in on it. What begins badly ends badly. It's as simple as that.

Punto de vista… The truth that motivated the cancellation of the Baseball America Cup

Before referring to the flamboyant president of the Pan American Baseball Confederation (COPABE), the body that is now known as WBSC Americas Baseball. It was she who contacted a promoter company and the Panamanian Institute of Sports (Pandeportes). In reality, they are the true protagonists of this lamentable situation that has muddied Panama's name and that is not justified under any circumstances. As I pointed out in my previous column, they are the main culprits of this shameful sporting episode. Fortunately, they did not involve the Panamanian Baseball Federation, an organization that should have been the main ally of these Panamerican leaders to guarantee the success of the first Baseball America Cup. It was essential to consult those who govern national baseball to facilitate logistical tasks and other fundamental aspects in the organization of an event of this magnitude. But that is not all.
