The sport of judo brought another gold medal to Panama at the Bolivarian Sports Games, being held in the cities of Ayacucho and Lima, Peru.
The gold medal was won by athlete Némesis Candelo in the -48 kg category. Candelo defeated the Venezuelan Gabriela Miranda 100-0 in the quarterfinals, while in the semifinals, she defeated the Colombian Erika Jara 100-0. In the final, she also defeated the Colombian Erika Lasso 100-0.
On Monday, judo added three bronze medals, achieved by Lilian Cordones (-52 kg), Bernabé Vergara (-60 kg), and Ronal González (-73 kg).
On the other hand, Olympic boxing secured two medals through the athletes Cristofer Filos and Eduardo Beckford.
Filos won unanimously 5-0 against the Bolivian Sebastián Daza in the quarterfinals of the 60 kg category. With this victory, Filos advanced to the semifinals of his category, securing at least a bronze medal. In the semifinals, Filos will face the Peruvian Francesco Odria.
Beckford defeated the Dominican Kevin Paredes 4-1 in the quarterfinals of the 70 kg category. With the win, Beckford also qualified for the semifinals of his category, securing at least a bronze medal. In the semifinals, Beckford will face the Ecuadorian José Rodríguez.
The next fights for Cristofer Filos and Eduardo Beckford will be tomorrow, Wednesday, December 3.
Another Panamanian athlete who competed in boxing was the young Yuliett Hinestroza, who lost 5-0 to the Venezuelan Irismar Cardozo in the Quarterfinals of the 51 kg category.
