Panamanian boxer Nataly Delgado conquered and successfully defended the World Boxing Association (WBA) world super flyweight championship. Last Saturday, she defeated Mexican Arlenn Sánchez by unanimous decision.
Nataly Delgado, born in the province of Veraguas, has been steadily improving as a boxer, which helped her achieve her goal of becoming a world champion. Her path has not been easy; there are few female boxers in Panama, making it much harder to find opponents. In addition to boxing, Nataly must also balance her roles as a mother and wife.
"Three victories, one of them was winning the world championship and another was defending it," said Delgado.
Behind Nataly's career is a team that has contributed its part. "There are many people on the team. First, my husband and head coach Julio César Archibold, Douglas Ramírez (therapist), Daniel Colina (physical trainer), and coaches Héctor Manzanilla and Reinier Véliz," detailed the champion.
Additionally, she thanked the mayor of Santiago, Eric Jaén, who, along with promoter Roberto Mora of High Level Boxing, organized the fight card in Santiago de Veraguas. She also expressed gratitude to the deputy of Santiago, Miguel Ángel Campos, for his constant support and to the Vice Minister of Economy and Finance, Fausto Fernández.
Regarding her second title defense as the WBA super flyweight world champion, her husband and coach Julio César Archibold announced that it will take place in March in the city of Panama. "As our first option, we want it to be Venezuelan Yoselin Fernández, who was the original opponent and couldn't make it due to visa issues," detailed Archibold.
