The sports world in Colón is in mourning following the death of baseball player Fernando Enrique Zúñiga Ábrego, 30, in a traffic accident on the highway connecting the provinces of Panama and Colón.
Unfortunately, the vehicle the athlete was in was involved in a triple collision that occurred around 1:30 AM at kilometer 33 of the Panama-Colón highway. Due to the strong impact between the gray sedan driven by Zúñiga and two white SUVs, driven by men aged 35 and 60, the athlete died.
His vehicle overturned on the roadway, rolled several times, and the front was completely destroyed, causing his death. The National Police Traffic Operations Directorate is investigating the causes of this tragic accident, as alcohol has been ruled out, as the other two drivers tested negative on the alcohol sensor.
In turn, the Colón Provincial Baseball League mourned Zúñiga's death with a brief statement: "With deep regret, the Colón Correcaminos Baseball League regrets the death of Fernando Zúñiga, who was part of our team."
