The World Boxing Association (AMB) has announced the launch of the 'Future Champions Panama' program for 2026. According to Alfredo Mendoza, of the AMB, this year there will be ten boxing events, one per month, starting in March. The first event is scheduled for March 14th at V Centenario Park, in the entrance of the Casco Antiguo, San Felipe, city of Panama. The program aims to strengthen the foundations of boxing and create a development platform for athletes. Mendoza highlighted that Panama is one of the countries where this program has developed best, alongside Venezuela. Last year, events were held in the provinces of Colón, Chitré, and La Chorrera, and La Chorrera will host again this year. Events are also planned for the provinces of Bocas del Toro and Chiriquí. To support the project, the AMB will receive assistance from institutions such as the Panama City Mayor's Office, community boards, and the Panama Olympic Boxing Federation (Fedebop). This support has made it possible for the events to be official, with fights counting towards the boxers' records. Several talented boxers have been identified during past events who will continue to receive support. Mendoza gave the example of a 12-year-old boy from La Chorrera named Camilo 'El Toro' Osorio, who already has good technique. The goal of the program is for long-term development of boxing in Panama and to bring back the spirit of competition to produce future world champions. The organizer is confident that Panama has the talent for this sport and it just needs support for them to continue to develop.
