Panamanian baseball player Leonardo Jimenez has been designated for assignment by the Toronto Blue Jays organization, reported Sportsnet journalist Shi Davidi via social media. According to Davidi, this decision was made to open up roster space for infielder Davis Schneider. The 24-year-old Jimenez will have a seven-day period to determine his future: he could be claimed by another team, go on waivers, become a free agent, or return to the Minor Leagues with the Blue Jays, outside of the 40-man roster. The Santiago native debuted with Toronto in the 2024 season and, over the last two campaigns, recorded a .207 average, with five home runs and 20 RBIs in 81 games. Additionally, Jimenez represented Panama in the 2026 World Baseball Classic, participating in two games, though without connecting for hits in five official at-bats. In the 2026 preseason, he had batted .231, with three RBIs and two runs scored in 14 games. What an unbelievable play that was from Leo Jimenez!
