The Superior Court of Appeals of the First Judicial District of Panama confirmed the personal precautionary measure of provisional detention of a 44-year-old citizen, charged with deprivation of liberty, aggravated robbery, and illicit association to the detriment of the 23-year-old student Dayra Caicedo, who is missing. The session was presided over by Magistrate Gionela Rhina Ortega, along with Mayulis Sandoval and Magistrate Raúl Leonel Urriola Caballero.
During the hearing, the prosecution, represented by Gustavo Barragán, and the defense of the accused, led by Agustín Ortíz, presented their arguments. The claim, managed by lawyer Martín Caicedo, also participated in the process. After analyzing the elements of the investigation and the risks established by the Criminal Procedure Code, the Magistrates decided to maintain the provisional detention of the accused.
The events date back to February 19, 2025, in the district of Vista Alegre, Arraiján, when the victim was deprived of her liberty upon arriving at her residence. The case is still under investigation, and the Court's decision highlights the alleged connection of the detained individual with the crimes charged in the case of Dayra Caicedo's disappearance.
