Arraiján Mayor Denies Receiving Post-Electoral Funds

The mayor of Arraiján, Stefany Peñalba, assured yesterday that she has not received post-electoral funds nor has her administration handled funds from the so-called 'parallel decentralization'. This comes after a report was released by the Comptroller General's Office.

'For transparency and absolute truth. We have not received a single cent from post-electoral funds, nor from parallel decentralization,' stated Peñalba in a joint press release from the Mayor's Office administration.

The statement urges the public not 'to be misled by malicious versions that seek to confuse'.

The mayor's statements come a day after the National Accountability Subdirectorate reported receiving three accountability reports totaling $616,055.31. According to the report, these funds corresponded to Peñalba as post-electoral financing after being elected through free candidacy.

Furthermore, the Comptroller's Office indicated that at the municipal level, the mayors from free candidacy, Irma Hernández of the San Miguelito district and Peñalba, have not filed accountability reports within the established period, despite having received post-electoral political funding.
