The National System for Civil Protection (Sinaproc) issued a statement to the public, following reports and comments regarding the Mirador de Las Américas (Chinese Monument) and its demolition. The agency stated that as part of its ongoing monitoring, prevention, and risk management efforts, Sinaproc conducted assessments of the Mirador de Las Américas area—one based on a citizen report and another at the request of the Municipality of Arraiján, to which it always recommended repairing the structure. Sinaproc deeply states that security and prevention considerations, exclusively aimed at protecting human life, cannot be used as a justification for demolishing an iconic monumental work of great cultural value to the Chinese-Panamanian community. "This institution reiterates its commitment to civil protection, risk prevention, and the safety of the population," they emphasized.
