Unscrupulous individuals attempted to bring in spoiled meat products to Atalaya in the Veraguas province. This is the second seizure carried out to protect pilgrims. On February 11, health authorities seized approximately 170 pounds of meat in an advanced state of decomposition and other human consumption products. It was detailed that the meat came from the La Chorrera Fair. On this occasion, the National Food Control Directorate seized processed food and sausages that were intended to enter the traditional pilgrimage of Atalaya in honor of Jesus Nazarene. The seizure was carried out in the Punta Mono sector, one of the accesses to Atalaya, where inspectors detected food from Carnival activities that was being transported to the religious festival area. Among the products that were taken out of circulation were processed food items that had been stored for several days. They also seized an undetermined number of sausages, which were being transported without maintaining the proper cold chain. These operations aim to protect the health of the attendees at the Atalaya pilgrimage. They made it clear that consuming spoiled food can cause mass poisonings. They did not get away with it.
