Panama. Ariel Joel Berguido Victoria has been provisionally detained for his alleged participation in the homicides of National Police Captain José Isaza and civilian Ángel David Rodríguez, which occurred on December 12 in Caimitillo.
According to the investigation, a 14-year-old minor has also been linked, identified as the shooter, and Félix Antonio Montero Chávez, alias 'Niño', who is accused of planning the attack, including hiring the hitman and organizing logistics. Additionally, a subject known as 'Niño' accompanied and guided Berguido to the locations that 'Gordo' and the shooter would use as access and escape routes to commit the crime on Calzada Larga, opposite the María Latorre School in Caimitillo.
The next day, around 11:40 a.m., 'Gordo' and the shooter located Rodríguez inside a vehicle from the Caimitillo Community Board and murdered him.
The night of December 11, Berguido received from Eduardo Sánchez, alias 'Gordo', the weapon that the shooter would use the next day to murder Ángel David Rodríguez, 25, who was the original target of the attack.
Five minutes later, during the escape, the hitmen encountered a police checkpoint in front of the Caimitillo Citizen Attention Service, where Captain José Isaza was, who signaled for them to stop. Instead of obeying, the shooter shot the officer, causing fatal injuries.
Berguido is also identified as the person who hid 'Gordo' and the shooter in his house after the crime.
According to what was revealed in the hearing, the crime was planned and organized by an unidentified person who arranged a meeting between Berguido and other individuals. According to the investigation, the order for the crime would have been given from the La Joya Penitentiary Center by the leader of a gang operating in San Miguelito.
During his hearing, he told the authorities, "I am clear that I am going to pay for what I did."
