Classes Suspended at School After Vandalism

Classes at the Harmodio Arias school, in the district of Chame, Panama Oeste province, were suspended after unknown individuals vandalized a significant part of the school's electrical system. In addition to damaging the electrical panels in several buildings, the criminals caused destruction in offices and furniture. Adriano Pérez, regional director of the Ministry of Education in Panama Oeste, indicated that the economic losses generated by the damage to the electrical system have not yet been accurately calculated. This is the third time the electrical system of this school has been targeted by theft by unknown individuals who take advantage of the poor surveillance on the premises. According to the official, a second security guard has already been appointed at this educational center where 2,000 students study. Pérez called on parents to join in the care and protection of the school, "which must be considered a sacred site."

Classes at the Harmodio Arias school will remain suspended for at least a week until the internal electrical network is repaired.
