Chame councilors and ATTT authorities agreed to eliminate the third lane on the Inter-American highway, decisions made during a meeting where the issues affecting the population were discussed. Roberto Morán, councilor of the Cabuya corregimiento and president of the Provincial Council of Panamá Oeste, expressed the importance of seeking urgent solutions to improve the mobility and safety of residents.
Morán emphasized the need to immediately suspend the operations of the third lane, known as "Tercer Paño," which has caused blockages and difficulties in local traffic. The meeting included local authorities, traffic representatives, merchants, transporters, taxi drivers, and members of civil society, who agreed on the implementation of traffic lights in strategic locations to optimize vehicle circulation.
"This cannot continue," expressed the neighbors affected for more than 15 years in the District of Chame and San Carlos. It was agreed not to use the third lane during Holy Week, and authorities were urged to prioritize the safety of citizens and protect investments in the area, especially businesses that are essential for community development.
Resolution 199-2025 issued during the meeting requests the Minister of Government and the Director of the ATTT for the immediate suspension of operations of the third lane on the Inter-American highway. The situation has become critical, with blockages on the roads preventing citizens from moving and resulting in fatal accidents in the area.
In summary, the community of Chame has managed to reach agreements with the relevant authorities to address the issue of the third lane and seek solutions that improve the quality of life for residents and ensure safety in the area.
