Traffic authorities, local leaders, and representatives from districts met at the Municipal Council of Chame to address the issue of the lack of turnarounds on the road from Sajalices to Coronado. The situation had caused frustration in the community, which was forced to move aside for vehicles going further.
At the meeting, which was attended by the Director of the ATTT, Jorge Luis Abrego, it was agreed to keep 80% of the entrances and turnarounds open on the mentioned stretch. This measure aims to alleviate the mobility problem affecting residents of the district, especially during celebrations such as Carnival, Holy Week, and National Holidays.
"We will meet in Council to address this. There was nowhere to turn around, as the turnarounds are too long. With these traffic measures, starting from Sajalices and going beyond Coronado, the turnarounds are lost, and the population that is daily in their territory is displaced to give way to those going further and vice versa, adding a third lane," expressed a local representative.
The meeting took place after the Chame community threatened to close the road in protest due to the lack of turnarounds, which complicated the movement of thousands of people. In previous days, a minor lost his life in a tragic accident in the area.
Representative Erich Coparropa, present at the meeting, emphasized that important agreements were reached to ensure the smooth flow of traffic in the area and committed to continue monitoring the situation. Soon, observations will be made on the ground to assess the possibility of implementing improvements in the entrances and exits, as well as in the deceleration lanes and turnarounds.
