The Colombian company Aseo Capital, S.A. has been granted an administrative concession to handle the collection, transportation, and final disposal of waste in the district of Chame, Panama West province. With this award, Chame becomes the third district in the province where Aseo Capital takes over the waste management service for a 20-year period, joining Arraiján and Capira, where it already operates. In February 2025, the Municipal Council authorized Mayor Francisco León Fua to select the company through a public procurement process for best value, paving the way for the concession contract. The agreement states that the municipality may apply coercive collections to users who are in arrears on the waste management fee, through an Executor Judge. This sets a rate of $5.00 for residential use, $18.70 per cubic meter for large and medium-sized businesses, as well as schools, and between $10.00 and $20.00 per cubic meter for small businesses. The agreement also specifies that the concessionaire company must deliver 3.5% of the total monthly revenue from comprehensive waste management to the municipality. Clause nine of the contract details that the company may bill the cleaning fee jointly with the electricity distributor company, IDAAN, or the entity that provides the drinking water and sewerage service. Regarding the rates, Aseo Capital is obligated to respect the rates already in effect, established in Municipal Agreement No. 7 of April 2025.
