The FabLab of Agricultural Innovation has been established in the province of Chiriquí, positioning itself as an incubator for solutions with a national impact. It invites engineers, young people, and producers to collaborate in developing a more competitive and sustainable Panama.
During the inauguration, Dr. Eduardo Ortega Barría, National Secretary of Senacyt, emphasized that this space is the result of aligning the priorities of the government, academia, and the productive sector to achieve real transformation. In turn, the Rector of the Oteima Technological University, Dr. Francisco Ugel-Garrido, pointed out that the FabLab of Agricultural Innovation will drive practical solutions through applied research, integrating theory with the reality of local producers.
Strategic Axes of Operation The laboratory has been structured under three fundamental pillars to boost the productive ecosystem: • Innovation and Prototyping: Accelerated creation of tools, sensors, and technological systems, including the integration of drones in agriculture. • Strengthening Productivity: Micro, small, and medium-sized agricultural enterprises (MSMEs) will have access to advanced technology to reduce costs and increase the quality of their products. • Human Talent Development: The center will function as an incubator for agri-tech startups, connecting students and scientists with high-impact practical applications.
Decentralization of Science This initiative is part of Senacyt's decentralization strategy, which seeks to ensure that investment in science and technology reaches the areas with the greatest productive activity directly.
This project represents a strategic advance towards the modernization and sustainable development of the national agricultural sector, establishing a bridge between academic knowledge and the technical needs of the field.
Technology Applied to the Agri-Food Sector The new laboratory, funded by Senacyt, will operate as a center for rapid prototyping and precision engineering.
